Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) is the community outreach arm of Rutgers, a unique partnership with local county governments, community volunteers, and the Department of Agriculture with offices in all 21 New Jersey counties. Our mission is to help New Jersey’s diverse population adapt to a rapidly changing society and improve lives through science-based educational programs. Read More About NJAES »
We achieve this by delivering practical education across the state, powered by both dedicated staff (including county agents, department chairs, and administrators) and a large network of volunteers. Volunteers, such as Master Gardeners and 4-H leaders, use their expertise to support vital programs in areas like youth development, horticulture, community health, and agriculture. All volunteers undergo a formal training process, which includes a background check, and receive professional training and support from RCE staff.
This site explores opportunities with Rutgers Cooperative Extension in Essex County to enhance the quality of life for residents of Essex County and brings the wealth of knowledge of the state university to local communities.
